Halley's Hot Gumbo Swingtet is the latest band created by long-time Washington, DC area clarinetist/saxophonist Halley Shoenberg, featuring a mix of traditional New Orleans-style jazz and swing music. Halley has always enjoyed playing in bands with a lively polyphonic three-horn front line plus rhythm section. One of her first gigs was playing in a "Dixieland" quartet for a political function in Maryland and she performed with the Potomac River Jazz Club's youth group called the Federal Focus Jazz Band. For nine years Halley played Glen Echo Sunday tea dances with the La Salle Dance Orchestra, which focused on 1920's and 30's ballroom dance music. She also learned to dance the dances such as Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Salsa and Tango and likes to dance during band breaks or go out for an evening of dancing to other bands. She pulls together some of the finest DC, MD, VA "Traditional Jazz" musicians for fun dance and listening events. Halley's Hot Gumbo Swinget is lively, powerful and energetic! Come out - hear and dance for yourself!
